Cross Training is an exercise regimen that uses several methods of training to develop a specific component of fitness. In cross training, you alternate using different muscle groups and do stretching routines. With this training you should experience enhanced weight loss, reduced risk of injury and it should improve your total fitness.
For weight loss you should choose activities like jogging, aerobics, bicycling, rowing or swimming. You want to make sure you exercise at a moderately intense level and do it for more than at least a half hour each day. You will first begin to tap into your sugar reserves and then will still use your sugar but also start using your body fat. If you exercise longer than that it will use even more fat. Remember you are trying to burn more calories that you eat. Exercising on a regular basis will help build stronger muscle and muscle burns more calories than fat, even when you rest.
No, this is not possible. Most people who exercise will lose 1 lb of muscle for every 3 lbs of fat. You will lose muscle when dieting but you can try and minimize it by focusing on losing fat.
When you do a high intensity workout with strength equipment, your body can burn calories during the exercise phase and up to 3 days post workout, in response to the repairing process your body goes through in recovery. In contrast, cardio equipment, which does burn calories, most of that calorie burn is done during the exercise phase alone.
Yes, if you are a woman or man concerned with osteoporosis as you age, strength training can greatly improve bone density and help fight the problem. Always check with your physician before starting any exercise program.
The answer is no! This only happens when you have a high caloric intake and specific training using extremely heavy weights. Since women have much lower levels of testosterone than men, they have very little chance of bulking up.
No. Half of the success of any fitness program is your diet. You should make sure you maintain a proper balance between your fat and calorie intake. Your nutritional program should be made up of complex carbohydrates, quality protein, essential fats and leafy green vegetables.
You certainly can. These kinds of workouts are a good, efficient use of time. If you are just starting to workout, you are not likely to overwork any one body part with this kind of program. You can, however, work different muscle groups on different days.
Yes. Most strength programs are specially designed to help prevent injuries on the playing field. For example, the reason a sport program will have leg extensions and leg curls as part of the workout session is to help the knee joint stable with the muscle strength gained. This will help reduce the amount of MCL and ACL strains and tears.
Interval training is alternating between bursts of high-intensity exercise and less intense or rest intervals. As you get fit, you increase the high intensity part of your workout and decrease the rest intervals. By doing this you can supercharge your fitness program, boost your metabolism and burn off excess fat. To start a program like this, you need to set your own level of intensity according to how fit you are.
